Thanks to a new use of a solid electrolyte based on lithium, zirconium and chlorine, all-solid batteries could soon surpass Li-ion batteries, while being much safer. This is the results of a study carried out by chemists of the Nantes Jean Rouxel Institute of Materials in collaboration with a team from the University of California, San Diego. The results were recently published in the Journal of the Electrochemical Society. The researchers are now embarking on an in-depth study of the fundamental mechanisms of these systems, with a view to optimizing their electrochemical behavior in real batteries.
